there are too many discussion here already. People just start topics and leave - sucks! - every day like 5-6 new topics even though there are plenty of similar ones. we should ask admins to delete old topics or to combine them somehow. it's ridiculous!
I know somewhere in the song he mentions that ice is forming on his wing - so this would cause the airplane to stall, inducing a spin. Hence the circling sky.
You can find it anywhere, for instance, here: http://www.eltonography.com/songs/blessed.html
"Pull your name from a hat" - what it means, in my perception.
A magician pulls different things from a hat, like rabbits, doves, ribbons of different colors, flowers and many other interesting and beautiful things.
This song is a song of a father of a newly-born baby addressed to his baby. And the father wants everything the best to his baby, he is ready to pick up a star from the sky. And he has to give a name to the baby, so he is ready to pull it out from a hat, like a magician, and this should be something interesting and beautiful.
These words of the song of Elton John do not actually belong to Elton John. He wrote the music. The words (the lyrics) was written by another person, by Bernie Taupin.

For Hurshid Karimov:
One need not to be gay to understand feelings of a father of a newly born baby.
They say, that french people doesn't like people who speak any other language. Of course, they won't beat you for that...but just won't interest in you
Thanks for the Q, Igor! I like Germans a lot as well as Swiss Germans and Austrians/ Cant really tell why, i guess i just generally like their attitude towards work, friends, foreigners, their idea of having fun, passion for sports and travel, lots of things.
I had been learning German for three years but gave it up two years ago :(( I think that it's one of the most interesting and wonderful languages! But these die, der und das... I hated it really! wie ist das wetter heute? Das wetter heute ist nicht besonders gut. Wie heist du? Ich hiese Marina :)) and so on...
Good morning everybody)
Igor, I didn't say that the French were not polite and good people. I just said that it was a stereotype that they avoided speaking any language other than French.
Good morning :)
>I just said that it was a stereotype that they avoided speaking any language other than French.
Hmm.. Is so strange. Must be respected other languages.
yess, smth like that. He was actually just playing with words. I could write smth like 'What the fuck is going on" haha. In this case he could answer like 'nothing fucking'
*sorry for my sense of humor :)
haha "nothing fucking" - no one in America would say that.....it would be "fucking nothing, man" or "none of your fucking business"......I understand your example though.
ha, sure! have you ever mentioned that there are so many mistakes according to english grammar rules in a lot of songs? like 'She don't care' or 'it don't matter'?
I am busy.. No time to get bored.. Im actually at work right now.. Overloaded hours at work keep me alive lately. Since ur perfect english, i guess, u must be in US or UK.. Am i right?
Turned out , there are type of people that keep the life ball rolling only when they feel some pressure. Im one of em. I keep very active and have active life, when i have very little time for everything.. When i used to live in New York, i got only one job, and i worked 6 hours , 5 days a week. And guess what i missed almost 50% of my classes and i never do gym while it was walking 1 min distance
And now, i have 2 jobs where i spend more than 60 hours a week, i go college 3 times a week, 3 morning i go gym with trainer, i do all kinda activities like bowling , vallyball, hanging out with friends.. As u see, i like to be busy ))
Andrey, for both reason, its easy to type, and of course americans like to make things easier. And i third reason, why im using "u" cuz im typing through my phone..
movies r by the way also very difficult to understand.. to make it a littl ebit easier I turn the subtitles on.. and what is yr way to better understanding of?
Oh yeah. Andrey, I know what u mean. As for me, watching movies in English is the best way of learning the language. And yes, at first I couldn't understand them coz especially americans speak soo fast so I turned the subtitles on as well as u do. But practicing it as more often as u can someday u'll understand that u dont actually need the subtitles any more :)
Reading books in English is the best way of learning the language. That's why you're turn on subtitles. And it makes understanding A LOT easier.
But it's ok! I try to watch films only in English...twice if it necessary to understand all. Also it's very useful to look after all the changing in language, etc. neologisms, slang and so on...
what's up guys?
I have a problem. I attend courses of english, but it is difficult for me sit behind the books and learn many words. I know if I go in USA I'll can lern Eng perfectly for 6 months..
So, what I should to do?
well, if you have an opportunity to come to the USA you should go there for sure! I know people who could hardly link two english words but after the trip to the US their level of knowledge became quite high. So it's up to you. Anyway, you should speak English a little bit to be able to express your feelings, emotions, wishes... whatever.
why not? how years old are you, guy? If you're a student of any high educational establishment you can take part in some Students Exchange Programs. e.g. well-known Work&Travel. I've been a participant of this Program last summer, and I'm coming back to the USA this summer too! Can't wait to come there! bc America is really the country of dreams coming true! :)
Hi everyone !!! Trip to USA or England is my DREAM, too. I want to meet people, who live there and practise my English, but now I haven`t a opportunity
English language is cool,sometime...for example-2 years ago I went to Finland and I have to say, that it was amazing and funny trip!!!amazing because I've never been so far before, and because I had my first flight!!!even though I was 15years old that time, I was able to translate speech of ...that man who is checking up passport/maybe customer???but I have one big problem-I can't translate people who talk fast :(
Oh.. this year Nigeria's gye studied with as. He didn't now russian, but he new english perfect! They learn it in school, they have lessons of physics or chemistry on english... I'm amased) But unfortunately we haven't seen him since november or desember
wow.. nigerian people.. they r really funny... it´s right, they speak since childhood English, but their language sometimes doesn´t differ from original Nigerian..:)... I´m not native English speaker.. just amateur, but for my ear it was terrible to hear that broken, but fluent language:) but apart from that they r really nice people.
firstly i want say hello everybody. i wanted learn English 1 month ago, i read thred in this group and learn it.
I think i will downoload movies in English and hear language.
I think that all our conversations add up only to phrases like "I want to talk", "Who wants to talk?" and so on)) Unfortunately I don't know how to shake up everybody)
Any conversation needs a subject. Without a subject a conversation is not a conversation. It is not even a chat or a smalltalk. It is not even a blah-blah-blah. It is raving of a mentally retarded person.
"Any conversation needs a subject" I absolutely agree, but I don't really know what subject will be interesting for everyone)) Maybe the weather?)))
"It is raving of a mentally retarded person." Hahha? I liked this)) But each speakers here have different levels, but at the same time everyone wants to talk)) So.. We can watch very interesting situation))
"retarded person" ha, good topic for discussion))) So, what do you think about them?))
Лейсан ♡⏝⎠⎷⎛⎝♡ Сафина, is it not funny? People want to communicate, but cannot think of a subject. They say "hello" to each other, say "let's talk", and then nothing happens. Looks like they have nothing to say.
'They say "hello" to each other' - So, it means at least that they are well-bred)))
I think that they have a lot to say, maybe they just feel shy)))
Hey, come on everybody!)) Wake up!)) We don't bite))
\Gentlemen, I will be your cheerleader, if you don't mind)) \
Ilmir, you wrote "Conversation without topic is okay". But now you offer me a topic - to feed the troll. You contradict yourself. And I am right - a conversation or a dispute, if you like, needs a subject, or a topic, at least a meaningless one.
Ha, and our topic for discussing is a retarded person)) Awesome!)) I hope that there are a lot of psychiatrists to keep the ball of conversation rolling)))
P.s. Ok, ok, I understood) Two's company, three's none. Good night, gentlemen)
Андрей Лубенцов, excuse me, I don't understand what did you mean. I guess that my English is not enough. Could you explain, please? Or it was a sarcasm and I can keep still?)
no.. I think Yr language is much more better as my.. cause it´s Yr profession (please correct me, if I´m wrong:).
With my sentence I meant only how gently and amusing Y moved out from the last discussion.. not more... and "noisly closed door" = my version of translation "хлопнуть дверью") I have no idea how could I translate that...Y?
that is fine, Ilmir! No trouble and no push! I´m really glad someone can communicate here unrestrained and keep the time along the mainstream of conversation:) cause sometimes it´s not really easy.
thanks=)
Sorry, i know i'm stupid))) but what is "OMG"? I saw it somewhere else...
Aslo, I don't know Mily Cyrus and hate Biber)) but my classmates like music like this)
No shit, really! For the first time I heard Mike 8 years ago.. Mr.Bungle - his first band, you know! It's fucking great! Faith No More was later, I know the story how Mike was invited in FNM.. very funny story)
Now Mr.Bungle is disbanded, I'm so sad...
Haha Yeah, Mr. Bungle was one of a kind......"California" was one of the greatest albums ever. Really good stuff on that album.
Well, do you know Faith No More is touring...? Unfortunately, they will be disbanding after the tour. I believe they played in Moscow a few months ago.....
Patton has been in many different projects since Bungle disbanded.....Peeping Tom, Tomahawk, Lovage, Fantomas.......a lot of stuff.
Alexandr, why do you think that there isn't any topic?) Gentlemen discussed music, so we can continue talking about it)
Катюша, hi, pretty girl)) In Kazan it's snowing too. Do you like such weather?
Hey peoples. What you think about, decision of our president. I talk about abolition of transfer on a winter time, already in this year. I right write? Without breaks?
oh.... I even don't know) In wikipedia there's written "altenative rock"(have i mistakes?))
Their most popular song is "In The Shadows" and I'm sure you've heard this song
Rasmus is really cool thing.. have always in my mp3 / but I like much more as "in the shadow" later themes of them, f.e. dancer in the dark.. or living in the world without u.. they r good boys
guys, who listen to The Offspring? and how long? for me, the offspring is the best punk-rock group in the world) I listen to the offspring among 1 year ant theirs tracks don't cease to surprise me!!

Hello. My name is Katya. I am fourteen years old. I live in Russia, Mocsow rejion. I come to school in 8th form by my legs. My favourire subjegs are Russian and English language, physics. English is very different lanuage for me.
May I try to put some sense in this discussion thread, at least, for a short time?
I offer everyone to express his/her opinion on the following:
Everyone has heard of global warming, Some people believe that this is a real threat to humanity - it may change our climate and our living considerablyб and these changes will be disastrous. Others insist that this is a myth invented by scientists in order to get public money for their unnecessary research programs.
What do you think of this? Please add some arguments supporting your opinion.
I think it is not a myth.
Honestly, at this moment I don't have enough proven information to make a conclusion how the global warming can affect climate on our planet. The information which I can get from the internet or TV in most cases is based on political games where global warming is used as an instrument of approaching political goals. I can get some statistical data on temperature gradient all over the planet but I am not a weather scientist to interpret it in a right way. However I can see visual indication of global warming. As example it is amount of ice in Arctic region. It is reducing dramatically. Or it can be increased sea level in many countries.
Anyway I think that carbon emissions problem is overrated in comparison to other waste problem, as example nitrogen oxide waste. I prefer to think that we - humans create a lot of different waste, garbage which has more harmful effect than carbon emissions and which should be recycled properly.
Anton, I believe you've made a good point about political games. Indeed, I noticed myself many times that global problems are used for achieving political ends.
Hey people.. just carry out a simple experiment.. take a jar full of snow and put it on the the cooker - first position of power. NOte the time the snow needs to become a water. After that take the jar with the same amount of snow and repeat it with second power position. Note the time. I think the result is clear.. some thing in the world do not need to beleive or not to beleive in:) it's just a physics.. not more
Hello. dear friends!!! Let me introduce myself, I am Assol! I really like English, and I'm studying in InterPress) Who have been in USA?(Maybe I have mistakes, I'm sorry))
Ksju6a17 Ksju6a17, there are no ways to learn a foreign language easily. If there were, all people would know several foreign languages. Think of this, and you'll see that this is true.
>If there were, all people would know several foreign languages
I can guess the real "problem" is that there is no necessity for the Russians, Ukrainians etc to study FL, since they're surrounded by the Russian-speaking nations and countries. For example in the Netherlands most than half of population knows two or even three languages as the country borders with lots of different verbal environments. There are no complicated things if you really have a fancy for something (or simply don't want to be a coolie, just kidding).
Rather, you are certanly right and your statement concerning knowledge of EL is true. All people know that it's not compulsory for them to study it hard but anyhow they do it some of them want to know more or earn a lot of money then today. EL is international language and it helps you to work abroad, meet a lot of interesting people.
I worked with one well-known Dutch company and working language for all personnel was EL.
wussup homies bitch nigaz for hustel money for niggaz for hustler check out my style real crip moscow criminal gang puppet for duppet with spussed high
Викторий Accelerator: 2.0 You Can (Not) Беневолент, True, in the Netherlands nearly everybody can speak English (my estimation - between 70% and 85% of people), and many know more than one foreign language. But does this mean that Dutch people know a secret way of learnign foreign languages easily? It does not. They have more motivations. As one of my Dutch friends explained me, "The Dutch is a small nation, not many people want to learn our language. That is why we learn languages of other people". And Dutch people are very serious about learning foreign languages, they invest a lot of time and money in this. In the Netherlands I met even tram drivers, bus drivers, plumbers and cleaning workers who can speak good English. Taxi drivers, hotel receptionists and many shop assistants usually speak more than one foreign language.
What you are absolutely right about, and I completely agree with you, is motivation. In Russia, Ukraine and other countries of the former Soviet Union there is a lack of motivation.
Hm.. I´ve heard about one another reason for multilingual skills of hollander. This is an old nation since hundreads of years trading all over the world valluable goods.. f.e. diamond trading, pepper and coffee are almost completely iin the hand of holland trading corporations. In order to be successfull in their business they had to speak another languages - to communicate for the sale profit. Therefore English, as a languge of colonial power. Netherlads have borders to Germany and France.. and the best trading parthner is as usually an immediate neighbour - that#s why German and French..
Андрей lubenchik Лубенцов, true, Holland used to be one of the greatest marine empires, competed with Great Britain for dominance over seas and oceans, conquered many lands and was a trading nation. Indeed, in old times learning foreign languages was to a great extent motivated by these activities. Now Holland is still an important trading ground for the whole Europe and the world, though nothing to compare with the past.
But it is also true that the Dutch is a small nation (with the population of about 15 mln people). In some former colonies of the Netherlands many people still speak Dutch. However, it would be pointless and too expensive to promote learning the Dutch language in other countries, that is why Dutch people believe that learning foreign languages is important for them.
Роман Chetvertiy Струков, I'm 50. I learned English in school, then in university, received the highest grades, but the outcome was very typical - I did not know the language. Then I decided that I needed to know the language, and started to learn it on my own. It was in 1987. Soon after that English became my hobby. In 1995 I decided that my English was good enough for most applications (except, maybe, becoming a literary translator or an English writer). Since then learning English has not been a special activity of mine. But I do improve my English just in the course of life, and I use it every day.
I think ... the only WISH is not enough!... I mean thounsends of people would like to speak another language, but without the strain and effort it stays only a wish. The strong Will - that is a key to success in the foreign language learning. Continuty shoould also prospeous reward someone who has a big aim:)
"You have the heart, but you don't have the soul... wait, you have the soul, but you don't have the heart... wait scratch that, you have the heart and the soul, but you don't have the talent."
no,no and again no. Success its part of fate, part of luck, part of hard work and part of talent. If you mix it in right way ,you will have success surely.
Hey, Namesake! U have to know that the number of really talented people in the world is very low.. therefore let´s try to evaluate the word "success"....I have f.e. a similar background in respect of my English knowledge and I consider the case (I mean that 2 Russian can communicate in English on the social network platform) as success! I do it with an aim to improve my writing and communicative skills in English.. it means today evening I can more as yesterday and this fact is also success in my eyes.. so I c U don´t loose Yr hope and U´ll have a success for sure:)
Антон Мещеряков, I am answering your question. Frankly speaking, I do not like to write or talk a lot about myself, so please do not ask me for more. Besides there is nothing special about me and hardly anything interesting. But anyway.
Actually, I am a university teacher, but I do not teach English. Sometimes (rather infrequently) I give lectures in English or translate lectures of my colleagues from Russian into English (when foreign students come to my university) or from English into Russian (when foreign lecturers visit us). Occasionally I do translations of scientific, technical, economic and legal texts (for money) and help other people to maintain business correspondence with their foreign partners (also for money). Also I use English for expanding my mental horizons, for acquiring new professional knowledge and for entertainment. I like reading fiction books in English, I listen to the BBC podcasts every day (programs about science and technology, economics, business and politics).
I've read your discussion with interest. And I would like to insert my two cents in it. I know that even very talented people admit than their successes were 1% due to their talents and 99% due to their hard work. So, even people without that 1% can achieve a lot, if they apply the other 99%. Of course, there are areas of activities where that 1% is absolutely essential - different fine arts. On the other hand, any person has at least a small talent at least for something.
for sure .. everybody has a talent for something - the biggest problem ist to recognise it at proper time / dear parents, please stop talking and listen to me intently:)/ the talent needs a breeding ground and should be carefully cultivated. If we were more attentive to our children, we would have much more brilliant talents on our planet.. by the way.. has anybody any talents here? just only to say after "I´ve chated years ago with the star:)!"
to Vladimir Belikov: Thanks for reply. Looks like you have a lot of other activities at work in addition to your teacher practice. I would agree with your point that English can expand you mental horizons. I would say that English can give you a chance to review your life experience from another point of view. Point of someone who grown up in different culture. Of course language can't represent a whole culture but it is a key for understanding the culture.
Oh, I am realy interesting of your discussion about talents)) I think that if we want to reach something, we just have to work about it. I never thought before, that I`ll want to learn English, I needn`t it in school, in college too. But only one teacher in university could wake my mind. And I see some resoults of my work.
Sometimes we burying our talents into the ground, or talk to us that we haven`t time, that we are too bisy. It`s not true! We can find a few time, if we want to find it! I wish all of you great sucsesses)))
Hi everybody! I'm from Astana, Kazakhstan. Now I'm looking for English speaking club. It'll be the to organize this club by myself, but I can't find native speaker(((
Yes, Maria.. it really depends on the teacher... my school teacher was f.e. a really good speaker, but a very bad teacher. And in contrast to him my teacher at the University was a young pretty girl just after institute:) so one can imagine that all of us boys were crazy about English:)
