Zodiac

Sun sign
The zodiac sign that the Sun was in at the time of a person's birth. It represents their core essence and personality traits.

Rising sign / Ascendant

Natal chart

Planets

The angular relationships between planets in a natal chart. Aspects indicate how they interact and influence each other. Common aspects include conjunction, opposition, trine, square, and sextile.
Retrograde
The apparent backward motion of a planet in its orbit, as observed from Earth. Retrograde periods are believed to influence the energy and expression of the planet's characteristics.
Transits
The movement of planets as they make aspects to the planets in a natal chart, indicating the ongoing influences and potential events in a person's life.
Progressions
A technique in astrology that advances the natal chart over time, revealing the unfolding of a person's life experiences and inner growth.
Elements
The four elements: fire, earth, air, and water. They are associated with the zodiac signs and represent different qualities and energies.
Modalities
The three modalities: cardinal, fixed, and mutable. They categorize the zodiac signs based on their different approaches to initiating, stabilizing, and adapting.
Retrograde motion
The apparent backward movement of a planet in its orbit, as seen from Earth. Retrograde periods are believed to intensify the influence of the planet and may signify introspection, review, or delays.
