3 Most Iconic American Desserts
Are you a sweet tooth? If your answer is “yes” and you like eating deserts just as much as making them, this article is for you. Today we will introduce the most popular desserts among Americans.
Doughnuts
Thanks to Dutch settlers in New York, who back in the 18th century introduced this soft oil cake to the locals. During World War I doughnuts were really popular among soldiers who were fighting in France. Now a doughnut (donut) is much more than just a dessert. Due to its convenient size and shape, it is a great snack to go, or it can be a quick breakfast on the way to work.
Baked Alaska
Despite having a complex look it is a pretty simple dessert that contains a thin layer of a sponge cake, topped with a scoop of ice cream and covered in meringue. The most challenging part is to caramelize the meringue quickly, so the ice cream won’t melt completely. Even though it’s called Alaska, the cake was created by Charles Ranhofer in New York. He named it so after the Alaska purchase in 1867.
Pecan Pie
Pecan pies were originally created and made in America. Pecan nuts are native to the land and were firstly cropped by Native Americans. The recipe is pretty simple and may only differ in sweetener: some may use syrups and some prefer having butter and sugar instead.
